Build type

Renovation

This project involved a comprehensive alteration and addition to a stunning 1920s Californian bungalow, carefully reimagined to suit modern living while preserving its original character.

The renovation saw the demolition of the existing structure, retaining only the original ground floor brickwork and heritage façade. From this foundation, the home was meticulously rebuilt, blending traditional architectural charm with contemporary functionality.

At the rear, a new open-plan living space was constructed, seamlessly connecting the kitchen, dining, and living areas to a beautifully designed alfresco and landscaped garden. This transition creates a strong indoor-outdoor relationship, ideal for modern family living and entertaining.

A first-floor addition introduces a spacious master retreat, complete with a private office, kitchenette, and balcony that captures sweeping views. This upper level provides a quiet, self-contained sanctuary within the home.

Every fixture and finish was thoughtfully selected to honour the home’s 1920s origins. Recycled hardwood flooring, sourced from a historic Australian woolshed, was incorporated to further embed a sense of heritage and craftsmanship throughout the space.

The end result is a timeless restoration—demonstrating how careful planning, attention to detail, and respect for original architecture can breathe new life into a significant piece of Australian history.
